Arts, culture and events

Community artists are doing inspirational work in the 38th and Chicago area.

The 38th & Chicago area

The area includes George Perry Floyd Square, Peoples Way, and the Thirty-Eighth Street Cultural District.

Caring for memorials during construction

Our commitment

George Floyd Square is home to community-created memorials, artwork and spaces for reflection that honor George Floyd and the movement for racial justice.

As construction moves forward, the City is working with many partners to help protect these works and maintain public access so people can continue to visit, honor and reflect.

Working together

The City is continuing to collaborate with:

  • Artists
  • Memorial caretakers
  • Community members
  • Cultural organizations
  • Art conservation experts

Together, we’re developing plans that respect the history and meaning of these spaces while supporting the long-term future of George Floyd Square.
